Latest Star Trek Trailer Promises Shatner-Free Fun
I’ve never been a Trekkie (or “Trekker” as the ubernerds prefer) but the latest instalment of the franchise looks appealing.
The original James Tiberius Kirk, William Shatner, got very cranky about the fact he wasn’t invited to be in this prequel. the 11th film.
I couldn’t believe it. I’m not in the movie at all. I thought, what a decision to make, since it obviously is a decision not to make use of the popularity I have to ensure the movie has good box office. It didn’t seem to be a wise business decision.
Frankly, jettisoning the tubby Ack-tor was probably the smartest business decision they made. The producers avoided camping. up. the entire. production. Granted, Shatner may be generally a cranky sunnivabitch these days — he was also upset about being snubbed at George Takei’s Big Fat Gay Wedding, going so far as to call the Enterprise pilot “sad” and “sick” — despite the fact the two were never really friends in the first place. Besides, after saying Shatner’s acting “sucked,” why would you extend the invitation?
(Sidebar — when George came out of the closet, did the door make that Star Trek “swish” sound?)

Uhura's a goner if she beams down to a planet in that red jumper
Entertainmentwise.com reports Mattel will launch in April a new line of Barbie dolls ahead of the latest installment of Star Trek:
The dolls – created by Mattel – are modelled on the characters Captain Kirk, Spock and Lieutenant Uhura, who appear in both the television series and the forthcoming film.
The toymaker did the same 13 years ago for the 30th anniversary of the show, much to the delight of nerd grrls everywhere.
Apparently the film’s producers are hoping non-virgins see the film, too, by sexing up the Kirk-Uhura relationship. Kirk actor Chris Pine says:
It’s trying to be sexed up for a new generation that really isn’t used to seeing Star Trek. It’s a whole new beast. (The Uhura striptease scene) will become famous. – actor Chris Pine
