THE TOWER OF LONDON, LONDON, ENGLAND
When Ann and I took a double-decker tour bus trip, the guide said we'd need three hours to do the complete tour. I thought she was nuts. Several days later we returned to visit The Tower of London (which, I was surprised to learn is actually several towers and the "tower" we all know is "The White Tower"). Well, what do I know about time: we closed the place. As I was taking this fantastic photograph on the river-side wall, one of the Beefeaters told us that it was 5 o'clock and they were closing. Ann, very much aware that I wasn't finished taking the 16 photos necessary for a single panoramic image, proceeded to chat-up the brightly dressed guard while I furiously snapped away. "So what part of America are you from?" he asks. Ann politely informed the man with the Scottish accent that mistaking a Canadian for an American is like mistaking a Scot for a Brit. He apologized profusely, and I got the shot. He would have been in it, too, if he hadn't kept moving around... This panoramic photograph opens up with a view of the crow house. It's said that if the crows ever left the tower, England would fall. To ensure that doesn't happen, the keepers of The Tower of London clip the wings of these cat-sized crows to keep them from flying away.
