Next generation iPhone users may be able to actually hear the audio of these gym televisions thanks to an integrated FM transceiver. Broadcasting your playlist to other gym members may also be a possibility.
Digging through the Beta of the iPhone’s v3.0 firmware (operating system) is evidence that Apple intends to offer video editing directly on the iPhone itself.
One serious shortcoming of the iPhone is it’s lack of FM radio support. While you may have no intention of listening to your local morning zoo on your way into work, all those television monitors at the gym broadcast the audio on a spare frequency — one that rival MP3 and CD players have been able to tune to for 10 years. The current iPhone can receive FM frequencies: but only the one assigned to the Nike+ shoes to track your steps.
The BCM4329 chip referenced in the firmware update also supports FM transmitting: possibly doing an end-run around third party transmitters designed to play your iPhone or iPod Touch through your car stereo. It may also be useful to transmit your music to other iPhone users on the bus — creating your own mini radio station in the process. Full coverage here…
