China Times is reporting Apple is preparing for three variations.

One is expected to be a higher end model to the existing iPhone 3G. But not every corner of the Earth can communicate at 7.2Mbps, so an EDGE version (described as 2.75G) geared towards those who aren’t able to get high speed — or need the data charges associated with wirelessly surfing the Internet at the same speed as your desktop.

So what about the third? A China-specific CDMA-version to capitalize on one of the fastest growing (and only growing) economies in the world. Getting into China would be a big coup for Apple: particularly since Research in Motion has been trying to claw its way into China Mobile’s space for more than a year — with very little success. China Mobile has it’s own Blackberry called… get this: the Redberry.
